| Carolyn Dawn Johnson |
|
The fresh-faced songwriter who originally hails from Northern Alberta drove 60 hours from her
then home, Vancouver, BC, Canada to build a career in Nashville. She seemingly never looked
back. She never had to. Arriving in 1995, Johnson developed her skill and reputation as a
songwriter while working odd jobs to pay the bills. A publishing deal led to cuts by artists
including Jo Dee Messina, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea and more. Her first No. 1 as a writer
came in 1999 with Chely Wright's "Single White Female." “This album was approached in a different way because it happened in a new stage of my life, while I became a mother,” says Johnson. “Most of the lyrics reflect the life I observed around me during this special time. I didn’t think everyone would want to hear an album about motherhood, so I chose songs that weren’t necessarily about me, but rather some of my favorite things to sing about.” Carolyn Dawn Johnson will vie for the 2010 Female Artist of the Year award against Terri Clark, who grew up in Medicine Hat, Victoria Banks, Jessie Farrell and Crystal Shawanda.
