In a Nutshell
Central Alberta Theatre is a volunteer, non-profit organization administered by an elected board of directors. It is their responsibility to oversee the operation of the theatre group. Board members are elected to a two-year term with elections held each year at the annual general meeting. All C.A.T. members in good standing are eligible to vote on the society's business as well as run for one of the eight board positions. To assist the board are various committees which facilitate the transaction of the society's business. These include but are not limited to the Artistic Planning, Policies and Procedures, Facilities, Fund-raising and CATena! committees.
The fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30 with two general membership meetings each year- one in the fall (upon completion of our financial statements from the previous season) and the annual general meeting held in June. The board meets each month at CAT Studios. We currently operate three facilities. The city-owned Red Deer Memorial Centre is used by the organization to present various events as well as stage its main stage production. The venue is also available for rent for local and traveling artists and groups. Adjacent to the Memorial Centre is C.A.T. Studios, our second facility. This venue is used to house our costumes, props, set pieces and workshop as well as giving us office, rehearsal and construction space. It also offers alternative performance spaces for the organization and the community. Our third facility is the City Centre Stage in the building that formerly housed the Uptown Cinema.
